I'm an applied mathematician by training and a storyteller at heart, with an interest in both the statistical and epistemic limits of predictability in human behavior. Right now I work in silicon valley at the juncture of applied science and product building, focused on human and agricultural systems. I also write and make short films about commodity farming, and teach a causal inference class at UC Berkeley. Previously, I earned a PhD at MIT and worked in academia and tech. My academic bio is here. I like to laugh at silicon valley. I get along well with numbers but am at root concerned with what Faulkner called the old verities and truths of the heart
